Kylie: The Exhibition - V&A Kylie is now such an icon that the Victoria & Albert museum in South Kensington has dedicated a whole exhibition to her and her style over the last 20 years. Yes - believe it has been that long since Kylie appeared in the charts - and in our hearts…

A quick look around at the crowd makes clear Kylie's broad appeal. There are young people, old people, mega stylish fashion student types, gay men, straight men, men being dragged around by their wives and girlfriends (although when they come across the gold hotpants they suddenly don't seem to mind being there…)

In 2007, as she heads towards 40, Kylie is still an amazingly chameleonic and influential style icon and the photographs that cover one wall of the exhibit are evidence of the impact she has had since she first appeared, as a slightly dorky teenager with 'Locomotion' and 'I Should Be So Lucky'.

The photographs track her image from her geeky Stock Aitken and Waterman beginnings through to the sexed-up, 'indie' Kylie who, newly signed to the de-Construction label, re-discovered her own coolness, after a dodgy period that the public seems to have forgiven and forgotten. After that it seemed the world became Kylie's oyster and she graced the covers of trendy style mags like iD and The Face.

But photos, shmotos, what we're really what we're here for is the clothes, which truly are amazing.

The first thing you notice is that Kylie is absolutely TINY. The clothes, which have all been designed specifically for her, are all on the tiny side of miniscule. And much of the conversation of people wandering around the exhibit on the day I went was all about how small she is. Not that I was eavesdropping… your trusty Reminiscin' reporter was just doing some research…

The second thing you notice is that all of these clothes don't have half as much pizzazz on the dummies; they don't look nearly as good as when Kylie is wearing them. Kylie's clothes look much better when they've got a Kylie inside, and without her in them you can see just how much she truly lights them up and brings them to life.

In the 'Music & Video' section is the Fee Doran designed white hooded jumpsuit from 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'. This famous jumpsuit is surprisingly simple and lacking in character close up - nothing like the sexy one-inch-punch of an outfit that appears in the video.

Surrounded by all these costumes, you realise just how much of a superstar Kylie really is. She even managed to make a dodgy pair of khaki overalls look good - and blimey, the V&A have even trawled as far back as her Neighbours days and got their hands on a pair of the horrible things from her days as Charlene.

It's amazing how many iconic outfits the V&A have managed to get together to show here. Squeezed between a selection of Kylie's awards are the aforementioned gold hotpants from the 'Spinning Around' video, which are now just as famous for their story as for housing Kylie's bum.

Legend has it they were bought for 50p in a charity shop, after being given away by a brothel madam. Kylie wore them to a fancy dress party and they were only dragged out of her wardrobe in a last minute panic the night before the video shoot, subsequently making Kylie's bum the most famous and lusted after in the world. What a journey for a pair of hotpants.
