The multi-instrumentalist talks to Reminiscin' about his early life, new album and working with Stevie Wonder…

As Omar so eloquently states in classic hit record 'There is nothing like this' we, as music lovers can mirror such quote to the man himself. No one can be compared to the delectable artist who is not only a singer and performer but an established producer and musician too.

Omar is one artist who can sit comfortably on his Neo Soul throne. He is one of UK's remarkable artist's who has had Stevie Wonder commending his work along with the legend saying he wants to be like him. Not to forget the soulstress Erykah Badu and Angie Stone who eagerly wanted to work with him.

With his debut album set to propel into the music scene Reminiscin' caught up with the multi talented artist as he enlists he inspirations, the highlight of his musical career and explains more about his new album release.

How did break into the music industry?
I was a musician from when I was in primary school. I went to music school, I was in college, and I started to write songs, playing all the instruments from about the age14 to15. I released my first single when I was about 16 in 1984 called Mr Postman that was through my dad's independent record label.

What made you decide to become a solo artist?
I had been performing in orchestras, brass bands, choirs and stuff. But I always liked to be the one that stood out. We used to do shows in the Royal Festival hall with a musical orchestra, with 100 kids and there I said 'I will need to do my own thing' and eventually I managed to get my own show there.

Who are you musical influences, when you were going up?
Stevie Wonder, Jeff Lorber, Bob Marley & Level 42.

What has been the most memorable or rewarding moment of your career, so far?
There is quite a few of them...working with Stevie Wonder on this album. He wrote me a song and he is performing with me on this album. So that's quite an honour.

Could you tell us a bit more about your new album 'Sing...(if you want it)
It's called 'Sing...if you want it', most of it was recorded in my studio in South London in my garden and it has people like Angie Stone, Common, Stevie Wonder, Estelle, Rodney P and it's a mixture of styles. Classic Omar basically, but the beats are a bit harder on this one. The last one was very Jazz soundtrack, but this one is more club orientated.
