A Class Act - One notable aspect about attending gigs is the overly predicted rotated sync jigs, the band's instrumental solo and not to forget the overwhelmed artist conceited by countless jeers...well, that was until George Clinton! Shifting away from the banality of conformed shticks, Hammersmith Apollo was home to a cinematic display of enthralled circus-esque parade.

Obviously not a circus per se, but pairing with the essential The Parliament and Funkadelic, their collaboration could only suggest an augmented frippery of jubilance and esthetics. In eyeshot of George, his kaleidoscope of dreaded hair was mopped under a baseball cap accompanied by the luminous cast of acrobats, pimped-out outfits and the glaze of guitarist Garry 'Starchild' Shider sporting a nappy (yes, that's right- no misprint, a nappy!)

The mavericks of eccentricity precariously led onto the stage, but there was no dallying about. Hitting the vocals to, 'Let's Take It To The Stage' which included a sweeping sci-fi introduction, "Please welcome yourself to the world of George Clinton-the funkmaster". I almost envisaged light sabers at hand, but as the Star Wars theme was annulled, the intergalactic calling was nevertheless out of this world.

In a mish mash of entertainment highlighting the circuit of 30 artists, dancer and vocalist, Gene 'Boo-Boo' Anderson revealed his flexibility-in every sense of the word! Wearing a pulsating red suit capped out in a black bowler hat, he did the ball-buster of moves (excuse the pun!) an agonising side split, which had onlookers startled.

To place focus on one individual was as a challenging as deciphering the rubrics cube, yet lyrics such as, 'To the windows, to the walls, to the sweat running down my balls' instantaneously reels you back to George's frivolous silver-tongue. Tracks such as , 'One Nation Under A Groove' , 'Hit It And Quit It' and 'Booty' still stir George's persuasive tone and abrasive vocals.

In addition to the 25 plus tracks diddled by the band including the abrupt, 'All Sons Of Bitches' and 'Some Next Shit', my favourite would have to lie on 'Something Stank And I want Some' featuring Sativa from their newly titled album, 'How Late Do You Have 2B4UR Absent?' In a tattle of fast quenching lyrics exerted by Sativa, it was the ultimate showdown of spirited tracks. Seeing George there was no indication that their performance of the night was class A!
