Thriller
Live, a new production by Flying Music and Key Concerts, revelling the career
of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. Just in time for the epic album Thriller's
25th anniversary.
Tonight Thriller Live, which celebrates 25 years of Michael Jackson's chart-topping
album Thriller, arrived at Hammersmith Apollo for a one night performance.
Choreographed by multi award-winner Lavelle Smith Jr, the spectacular show
was a multimedia stage and video celebration of Jackson's career. This wasn't
surprising as he had worked with Michael himself, Janet Jackson as well as
Beyonce and the Rolling Stones, to mention a few.
MJ Thriller Live! Features more than 30 performers, as well as a full company
of singers and dancers. There is also a gospel choir and live band which helped
bring Jackson's music to life in an interesting way.
Jeffery Daniel, the choreographer responsible for creating Michael Jackson's
famous Moonwalk dance move, hosted the evening and was full of laughs and
entertainment. The showcase itself included tracks such as Thriller, Dirty
Diana, I Want You Back, Blame it on the Boogie, Can You Feel It, Rock with
You, She's out of My Life, Billie Jean and Heal the World.
Highlights of the show where abundant throughout the night as it went from
the amazing chorography and attitude. These came from the dancers on stage
and their excellent delivery and precision, to the three young singers, DELLIELE
ANKRAH, SHAHEEN JARFARGHLOI and DOMINIC SMITH who took control of the young
Michael Jackson. Undaunted by the bright lights, the audience and the technical
hitches which occurred throughout the night, they really brought the Michael
Jackson fans to the edge of the seats by the vocal abilities despite being
so young.
Special guest E' Casanova has thrilled thousands in America, The French Polynesia,
South America, Europe, and Asia with his talent and abilities and his unbelievable
salute to Michael Jackson 'The King Of Pop' and did the same for us tonight
at Hammersmith Apollo . He had mastered his impersonation down to a 'T' and
ensured that the audiences were constantly entertained. The crowd was filled
with Jackson fans from old and many were young just being introduced to the
music of the Legend that is Michael Jackson.
There where times throughout the show where, the technical hitches and bad
lighting did put a downer on the show and the audience did seem disconnected
from some of the older singers as they made the songs their own rather than
trying to simulate the energy that is Michael Jackson. Butt those spells didn't
last too long as the dance troupe came back on stage and reminded us about
the intricacies that went into any routine especially that of Michael Jackson.
The production was brought to life by Adrian Grant. Having published the Jackson
biographies Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary, and Making History ,
this show has not been an easy one to pull together as it has been slightly
over 15 years in the making, from a tribute show so long ago in 1991 to a
West End stage presentation in 2006.
The cast of Thriller Live took to the stage at last year's World Music Awards
at Earls Court in London to perform the title track from the musical and were
able to blow the audience away before Michael Jackson himself graced the stage
to sing with the choir 'Heal the World'.
On a whole it was a fantastic night filled with family entertainment: It was
full of singing and dancing with a gospel choir and a live band added to the
mix which ultimately caused a winning celebration to the musical wonder which
has influenced and touched so many lives and still continues to do so.
It was well worth watching, even if you're not wacko about Jacko.
